At Smilestyle Signature we have invested in the fabulous “ Wand” system that will allow us to numb your teeth much more comfortably. So if you are terrified of the needle or lets face it like most people put up with it- well now you do not have to.

Smilestyle Charity Update

As many of you will be aware, Smilestyle's nominated charity is Bridge2Aid, which the practice (together with our patients) have supported for a number of years now. Bridge2Aid works in Tanzania providing dental care to the poor in the rural areas of the country (please see website at www.bridge2aid.org for a fuller description of the charities activities). In the past we have raised funds by Leo Jurkiw doing a sponsored climb of Kilimanjaro, and then by means of a charity calendar.
 
In 2009 Leo and Kirsty (Leo's nurse) went to Tanzania as part of Bridge2Aid's "Dental Volunteer Program" to help train medical personel perform dental first aid, and Leo will be going out again in September of this year. During the last year, thanks to the generous cooperation of our patients, we collected used gold crowns which when refined enabled us to make a donation to the charity of £1,295 , a not insubstantial sum in the UK, but a very significant amount of money in Tanzania. On a more modest scale we also recycled used printer cartridges at the practices, the proceeds of which (£71.50) also went to the charity.
 
We would like to express our sincere thanks to all of you who have contributed to our help for this very worthy cause.

 

All Change at Smilestyle

Many of you will already be aware that Leo Jurkiw, the "senior" dentist at Smilestyle has decided, after 26 years, that the time has come for him to retire. Leo first founded "L. Jurkiw & Associates", as it was then known, in 1985 at the original site on Broxtowe Lane. There have been many changes over the years as the practice evolved and expanded. From pioneering the use of computers in dental practice, to being one of the first Trainers of newly-qualified dentists in the Trent region, Leo has been at the forefront of many innovations which are now mainstream.
 
Over the last eleven years the management of the practice has gradually, and seamlessly, been passed over to Mark Wilkins, the current owner and driving force behind Smilestyle. This has resulted in the opening of our new, private, state-of-the-art "Smilestyle Signature" premises on Nuthall Road.
 
Similarly, Leo's handing the batton over to Justin Dinley is another positive development in the evolution of the practice. Justin has invested heavily in his post-graduate education, and brings with him a wealth of experience in his chosen fields of Endodontics, Oral Surgery and Implantology, and we look forward to working with him in our quest to provide ever-better patient service and clinical excellence. We wish Leo all the best for his retirement and he will be missed by both patients and staff alike.

Smilestyle Signature at National Smile Awards

Mark Wilkins and his team are very proud and thrilled to be singled out and highly commended at the National Probe Dental Awards at the Lancaster Hotel in London on April 23rd. The category of “best designed dental practice in the country” was very hotly contended and to come runner up and highly commended was a great testament to all the hard work we have all put into our new practice Smilestyle Signature. Aspects such as how we look more like a London Health Spa than a dental practice and being one of the first practices to use an air-tubes system to transport instruments invisibly around the practice helped us achieve this success.

The positive comments from patients have been fantastic and we truly have a great place to work and deliver the best possible service to our patients.
